The Asian Society of Transplantation is pleased to announce that the 20th Congress of the Asian Society of Transplantation (CAST 2027) will be held in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India, in October 2027, hosted by the Indian Society of Organ Transplantation (ISOT). ISOT was officially selected as the host society by the AST General Body at its meeting on 6 September 2026. The Congress will be organised in partnership with AST, with its support for the scientific programme and international participation.

India offers a compelling setting for this gathering. According to the Government of India, the country performed 20,138 organ transplants in 2025 and ranks third worldwide in total organ transplantation. Its extensive experience in living donor transplantation, growing deceased donor programmes and work in paired organ exchange offer valuable opportunities for shared learning. This progress also brings a common responsibility: to expand access while protecting donors, maintaining ethical practice and improving long-term outcomes for recipients.

ISOT brings together more than 3,500 members across India’s organ transplantation community. Their clinical experience, academic engagement and commitment to education will provide a strong foundation for welcoming colleagues from across Asia and beyond. CAST 2027 will offer an opportunity to exchange evidence, connect established and emerging transplant programmes, and support the next generation of transplant professionals.

Ahmedabad combines a distinguished medical community with a rich cultural identity. Its historic walled city was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2017. The city is also home to the Institute of Kidney Diseases and Research Centre and Dr H L Trivedi Institute of Transplantation Sciences (IKDRC-ITS), a major Indian centre for transplantation, training and research. Gujarat’s transplant experience makes Ahmedabad a particularly relevant setting for discussion of innovation and practical solutions to regional challenges.

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport provides domestic and international access, complemented by connections through major Indian aviation hubs. These links support participation from neighbouring countries, Southeast Asia, the Gulf and the wider international transplant community. Ahmedabad also offers delegates the opportunity to experience Gujarat’s heritage, cuisine and hospitality.

AST and ISOT warmly invite transplant clinicians, surgeons, scientists, coordinators, nurses, allied health professionals and trainees to join us in Ahmedabad, India in October 2027. Further details of the Congress dates, venue, scientific programme and registration will be announced through official AST and ISOT channels.
